About Heather

Heather Peters

Heather realized in her teenage years that she wanted to work in healthcare. During her senior year of high school, she took a job as a ward secretary at Ashe Memorial Hospital. It was there that she fell in love with nursing and realized this was the career she wanted to pursue.

Heather received an associates degree in nursing from Wilkes Community College in 2002. She then went on to receive her bachelor of science in nursing from Winston-Salem State in 2004. She worked as an intermediate care nurse and then a school nurse for several years. She became more passionate about caring for the entire family. She then returned to school receiving her master of science in nursing as a family nurse practitioner from East Tennessee State University in 2010. She worked at Mount Jefferson Family Medicine for 8 years.

While working as a family nurse practitioner, Heather discovered that so many patients have illnesses and chronic disease that can be avoided and often times reversed by making simple lifestyle changes. Unfortunately, the insurance-based medical practice does not allow providers to spend extended amounts of time with patients to educate them about how to better care for themselves and reverse chronic illnesses.

Heather’s personal goal is to empower patients with the tools to help them lead a healthy lifestyle. In order to achieve this, Heather collaborated with Maggi Birdsell, Registered Dietician, to open their own practice. Heather’s professional goal is to work with patients to help them decrease and eliminate chronic medical problems. She also wants to assist those leading a healthy lifestyle in maintaining this for years to come.

Heather lives with her husband, Marty, and their two children, Harper and Hadley, their dog, Hazel, and cat Princess Patches in Crumpler, NC. In her free time she enjoys back porch sittin’, CrossFit, antiques and flea markets, and spending time with family and friends. She is an active member of Midway Baptist Church and enjoys giving back to the community.

About Jessica

Jessica

I have always loved helping others in any way I can. You could say I’m a social butterfly, this was a driving factor in my career choice. My first job in the medical field was with Lincare. It was the one on one interaction with patients that brought a new found love for medicine and inspired me to further pursue my career in the medical field.

I received my Phlebotomy certification through Wilkes Community College in the early 2000’s. I started my new journey at Prime Medical Healthcare in Boone, NC. I worked as a Medical Office Assistant/Phlebotomist to Dr. Nicholas Placentra for 7 years. I am so grateful for all the knowledge and kindness shared with me. I loved my work family but really wanted to work closer to home.

I then started a new path at Mount Jefferson Family Medicine as Lab Director/MOA. Here I truly had an opportunity to grow. I was needed by my patients and what started as “a job” grew into a passion. Once I saw what an impact I could have on a patient’s life, I knew I truly found my calling. I wanted to be there for my patient’s and educate them on healthy lifestyle changes. Unfortunately in the fast paced world of medicine my time was very limited with patient’s.

It wasn’t until I found my new work family at Elevation Health that I realized I shared my love for helping others with Heather, and Maggi. I hope to further this passion for health care. I feel like I have come so far and I’m so excited for what the future holds!

Jessica lives with her son John Dillan, their dogs Maggie and Gracie, and cat Jasper in the lovely community of Warrensville.

She loves spending time with her family, working outside, hiking the mountains and floating the New River.
